Klaus: Maroc 2010 February Dakhia

February 19th
Yesterday we reached Laayoune in Westsahara lots of police and military. We camped on the big busstation but the police sent us further to the big supermarche the second one I`ve seen in Morocco. But in the morning we noticed it`s closed.
We also learned the dieselfuel costs in Westsahara only 46 Eurocent per liter which is really nice, unfortunately I filled up my tanks 300km ago for 65 ct ….
We are looking for a campground in Laayoune Plage today to stay a little bit and wash our clothes and so on.

February 21st
We are 4 of us now; at the campground we met a German-French family with 4 kids in a MB 911, they sold everything in France and went on the road and live in their rolling home. It’s nice for Josie to have some other kids. So we stayed a second day to relax in the nice temperatures and do our stuff.
We started in the direction to Dakhla where they celebrate the Dakhla-festival in these days.
Halfway we overnighted in the dessert.

February 22nd
We made allmost a half of the way to Dakhla and found a nice bay, joined the beach in the afternoon, tried to catch some fish, at least we bought some for our delicious diner.

February 26th
Meanwhile we are a couple of days in Dakhla. There is now a festival “Desert et Mer” with concerts, championships in wind- and kitesurfing, camelracing and so on and everything is for free. Unfortunately there is no writen programm. But something we know already, for example this afternoon shall be a camelrace, the surfstuff depend on the wind and the concerts are in the evening. The music yesterday wasn’t really mine…
Otherwise I feel very well here, the weather is nice I’m going to swim dailly, yesterday we had Camel to the diner, was good tasting, if only the internetconnection….
After the weekend I have to leave, 6000 km are to drive….

February 27th
Another nice day at the sea…
In the afternoon we went to Dakhla to see the camelrace. Cause of the heat they postponed the race for one hour. So we had time to walk around and look into the bedouine-tents and got some invitations for tea. We sat in such a tent smalltalking and teadrinking…
When the time came I went up on the roof of the Blue Wonder with my camera and had a nice few over the place. But instead of the camelrace there was a “Fantasia”, which is a show-attack on horses with old muskets, which are to be fired at the end, it was a nice and loud spectacle. After that we went to eat camel and listen to the concert down-town….

March 1st
There is an Oysterfisher at the beach who sells Oysters for 3Dh the piece which is about 40 ct, so we get daily nice apeticer.
The main attraction at the festival yesterday was Youssouh‘ndour who makes Senegalasian Reggaemusic, which is a nice music, but there was not that much enthusiasme in the auditorium, but much more than at the other concerts. That was for free like all the other programpoints, so the Sahourians used these for a familyevent.....

February 17th
The last third of the piste was contrair to the piste yesterday really hard to drive I needed for 15km almost two hours, there were so much stones and rivercrossings in the mud, I had only a hint of what was under the surface of the water…
About noon I made it finally to Tan Tan and met two hours later the others to go together to Tan Tan Plage where we reached the Atlantik Ocean.

February 18th
We slept on a parkinglot at the beach inmidst of white plastic motorhomes with the TV-antennas on the roof.
It was raining all night long, so I lost a lot of dessertmud on southside of the “Blue Wonder”.
Meanwhile we reached Laayoune in Westsahara which is now part of Morocco, not everybody believbe in that, so the military is a bit nervous.
